Lady Gaga, who’s been pretty comfortable with her body lately, goes topless in the newest issue of V. I think she looks gorgeous, even though the theme of the shoot seems vaguely to be “sexy toddler.” In one photo she looks like she’s been making mud pies using only her chin and boobs.
Displaying her body, rather than rendering it unrecognizable under elaborate costumes, is a new angle for Lady Gaga, but it’s all a part of her underlying interest in pop star philosophy. “I thought about Pop Art and how the dominant subject matter was always the celebrity or the pop-culture icon on the canvas, and then I thought to myself, But what I have tried endlessly to become through my work is a celebration of my differences through art, with myself as the canvas, as opposed to me as the subject matter, being put on the canvas,” she told the magazine.
It’s not the first time of late that she’s gone full gaga. Lady Gaga also gets naked in her recent video with Marina Abramovic: 100%, head-to-toe, count-her-tattoos naked. The eerie, hypnotizing video, in which Gaga walks around naked in the woods, sits on a chair in a stream and lies on the floor chanting, is a collaboration between Gaga and the increasingly trendy performance artist Abramovic. “Last week at a three-day retreat in upstate New York, Marina instructed Lady Gaga in the Abramovic Method — a series of exercises designed to heighten participants’ awareness of their physical and mental experience in the present moment,” the Marina Abramovic Institute said.
