Some thieves who apparently don’t appreciate the meaning of the holiday season recently stole food from a New Bedford pantry, including nearly two dozen turkeys.

The thieves broke into a refrigerated container at St. Anthony of Padua Church on Nov. 16 and stole Thanksgiving meals meant for those in need, according to WCVB.

Twenty turkeys were taken, as was 150 pounds of cheese. Some food that wasn’t taken was opened and dumped on the floor.

The coordinator of the church’s food pantry said it was “heartbreaking.”

Since news of the burglary spread, the food pantry has received donations from various people who have given dozens of turkeys and even cash.

Anyone who wants to donate can call508-993-1691.
