Celebrate Afro-Caribbean culture with a day of costumes, parades, food and more when the Cambridge Carnival International 2018 kicks off this weekend.
Back for its 26th year, the annual festivities draw thousands of revelers to the city each year to watch the epic grand costume parade, which features dance troupes, musical groups and masquerading participants as they travel around town to bring the fun. Food vendors, arts and crafts, a kids stage and more will be on hand in the festival area so visitors can party all afternoon.

Cambridge Carnival International 2018: Day and time?
The festivities will take place, rain or shine, on Sunday, Sept. 9. The event is scheduled to happen between noon and 6 p.m., with the parade set to begin at 12:30 p.m.
Cambridge Carnival International 2018: Parade Route?
The parade route will take over quite a large part of Cambridge, spanning 1.3 miles. The festivities will kick off at 12:30 p.m. at Blackstone Street between Western Avenue and River Street, located near the Charles River. The participants will walk up River Street and pass through Central Square along Massachusetts Avenue before continuing on Main Street. The parade will conclude in Kendall Square near MIT.
A viewing stage will be located at the end of the parade on Main Street, marking the beginning of the festival, which takes over the street up to the Kendall Square T stop.
Cambridge Carnival International 2018 Street Closures
The following streets will be closed during the festivities on Sunday:
-Main Street will be closed from Vassar Street to Broadway from 7 a.m.-10 p.m.
-Ames Street will be closed from just pass the MIT Hospital to Broadway from 7 a.m.-10 p.m.
-Main Street will be closed from Massachusetts Avenue in Central Square to Vassar Street from 8 a.m.-8 p.m.
-River Street will be closed from 12:30 p.m.-4 p.m.
-Massachusetts Avenue will be closed on the north side from 12:30 p.m.-4 p.m.
