Are you too hyped about Christopher Nolan’s much-anticipated “Dunkirk” to wait until it hits theaters nationwide? You’re in luck: the film’s Prologue Experience Tour is coming to Boston on July 4, where the public can get a taste of the film’s unique cinematic experience before its July 21 box office release.
The “Dunkirk” prologue will play outdoors in Copley Square, behind the Tortoise & Hare fountain, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Independence Day. Audience members will not only get a preview of the film’s World War II-based story, but also a taste of its unique cinematic presentation. “Dunkirk” will be shown from a Barco cinema projector onto a 15-foot screen with 5.1 Dolby digital sound and 87 ButtKicker interactive seats. This will allow fans to experience a preview of the immersive quality of the movie, which used a mixture of IMAX and 65 mm film.
“Dunkirk” is expected to be one of the biggest releases of the year and is one of the most ambitious projects of Academy Award-nominated director Christopher Nolan. The film attempts to tell the story of the famous World War II battle, in which nearly 400,000 allied soldiers were stranded and ultimately rescued on the beaches of Dunkirk, from three perspectives: air, water and land.
The prologue tour began on May 25 at Phoenix Comicon, to coincide with the 77th anniversary of the May 26, 1940 battle, and has been traveling to cities around America and the world in preparation of the film’s worldwide release. As the film honors the courage of World War II soldiers, all active and retired military personnel will get front of the line access.
