Just like frappes and lobster rolls, Fenway Franks are quintessential summer treats for hungry locals, so expect Bostonians to come out in force for this week’s hot dog giveaway.
In honor of National Hot Dog Month – yes, that’s a thing – Chelsea-based frank purveyors Kayem will hand out 4,000 free hot dogs to folks in Boston’s Financial District. Pedicabs will commence the festivities at 100 Summer Street on July 14 and 15, and will distribute the free lunches between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., while supplies last.
As the official frank and sausage provider for the Red Sox, Kayem will also give away a few other special prizes that should delight baseball fans and foodies alike. In addition to the free hot dogs, attendees will get a chance to take home vouchers for rewards ranging from free Red Sox tickets to grill kits. Fans will also have an opportunity to win a year’s supply of Kayem Franks & Buns and Kayem’s famed Boxes o’ Meat.

Boston’s collection of mascots is scheduled to make an appearance during the two days of free hot dog fun. The Red Sox’s Wally the Green Monster will stop by on Thursday, while Pat Patriot and the Bruins’ Blades will appear on Friday. Unfortunately it looks like the Celtics’ mascot won’t be there, probably because Lucky the Leprechaun will be busy working on his dunking skills on a basketball court somewhere.
The giveaway precedes Kayem’s upcoming announcement for the winner of its 5th annual Create the Next Fenway Frank contest.
The company will reveal which new hot dog makes it onto the ballpark’s concession menu at a Red Sox game on July 28. The two finalists are the North End Frank, featuring toppings like pesto and mozzarella, and Win Dance Eat Repeat, a frank topped with Sriracha relish, bacon and spicy ketchup.
Whether you're feasting on franks downtown or at the park, just don't try and beat Joey Chestnut's latest hot dog eating contest record, for all of our sakes.
