Where to celebrate National Taco Day in Boston

National Taco Day

The air is cooling down, the days are getting shorter and Fenway is set to host a postseason series: It’s fall. Just because Halloween is coming up and pumpkin spice fills every coffee shop doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy some outstanding Mexican cuisine this National Taco Day on Oct. 4. Whether you’re looking for a more upscale meal, or you want to tackle a daunting culinary challenge, Wednesday will have something for you.

Tico

Specializing in American cuisine “with a Latin influence,” head to this Back Bay restaurant for this year’s foodie holiday. Tico will offer 25 percent off on all two piece tacos with any alcoholic beverage purchase between 2p.m. and  6 p.m.

Check out another Back Bay spot, Lolita Cocina and Tequila Bar, for a festive, energetic atmosphere. They’ll serve up $4 cochinita pibil tacos a la carte, and be sure to try some of their inventive cocktails and margaritas.

Margaritas

Margaritas Mexican Restaurant specializes in – wait for it – margaritas. They have over 25 varieties, and are as authentic as it gets in this neck of the woods. If you’re somebody who can’t enjoy a holiday without conquering a massive, arduous yet delicious eating challenge, then Margaritas is the place for you to be this National Taco Day.

At two pounds and 12 inches, the Taco Gigante is more of a journey than a taco. It consists of a huge crispy tortilla shell stuffed with lettuce, refried beans, rice, ground beef, chicken, carnitas, cheese, salsa fresca, bacon, queso, hacienda sauce, picante sauce and pickled jalapenos. What does one receive as a prize upon consuming this monster? A voucher to do it all over again, for free, upon their next visit to Margaritas.

Choose from blackened steak, fried cod, pork belly, chicken cordon bleu and roasted vegetables to fill your festive meal. And if you’re feeling thirsty, sip on a selection from more than 100 types of tequila.
