Tap Room debuts at Sam Adams brewery

tap room

Experimental beers are now on tap at Sam Adams’s new Brewery Tap Room.

Located within the walls of the Jamaica Plain brewery’s base for research and development, the cozy, brick-walled Tap Room offers beer lovers the chance to hang out and taste some of Sam Adams’ latest creations. The craft brewery is also opening a Bier Keller — German for beer cellar — to age barrel-aged beers.

Behind the bar are 20 taps, which will pour both innovative styles and long-time best sellers. Among them are the juicy, hazy Sam Adams New England IPA, which is just beginning its roll out in select cities this year, plus seasonal brews like Winter Lager and a host of experimental beers only available in the Tap Room.

The Tap Room itself offers a low-key, homey environment, complete with plush brown couches, shuffleboard and long tables with benches. Food trucks and food vendors will often be available, and a series of special events including trivia nights and karaoke will also be hosted at the brewery’s new addition.

Alongside the Tap Room, the brewery’s expansion includes the Sam Adams Bier Keller across the road. Formerly used by the pre-prohibition Haffenreffer Brewery, the Keller houses experimental barrel-aged barleywines, oak-aged saisons and scotch ales aging in scotch whiskey barrels, among others.

The brewery will offer tastings at the Bier Keller featuring brewery-only barrel-aged beer and select seasonal cheese pairings on Mondays and Fridays at 3:30 p.m.
