Just in time for this week’s heat wave, one of summer’s favorite flavors is taking over the city’s ice cream shops.
Maine’s organic wild blueberry farm Josh Pond has shipped an early crop of their antioxidant-packed berries to ice cream and gelato shops around the city for a week of special flavors to welcome summer.
Wild blueberries are already well-loved in New York kitchens looking to add a summer touch to their menus, like the seasonal lobster salad from Luke’s Lobster and the pies at Clinton Street Baking Co. They also have about half the sugar of regular blueberries and a more concentrated flavor, so mixing them with sweet cream sounds like a perfect combination.
Here are the participating shops and their special flavors, only available from now through Sunday, June 18.
