Makhani, a new modern Indian restaurant in Philadelphia, is finally open and offering free giveaways

Restaurant owner Shafi Gaffar has quite an impressive resume having had his hand in some of Philadelphia’s most prominent and notable Indian restaurants including the wildly popular eatery Tandoor. Now Gaffar is bringing his culinary chops to his own spot and Philadelphians will not be disappointed.

“Makhani Modern Indian is proud to open in the heart of Old City, one of Philadelphia‘s most popular and diverse dining neighborhoods,” said Gaffar in a release. “Old City has such a rich history with top quality international cuisine. We are thrilled to add Modern Indian fare to that ever-expanding mix. Chef Sanjoy Banik’s mastery of traditional spices and flavors make each dish an opportunity to experience classics and delicacies in new and exciting ways. Every plate becomes a culinary journey. We can’t wait to officially open our doors and showcase our chef’s many culinary talents with the neighborhood, the city and the region.”

Makhani (which means “with butter”) the new Indian restaurant in Philadelphia specializes in North Indian curries that usually have thick, moderately spiced and creamy gravies. All of the delicious food is freshly prepared and made-to-order right in view of the dining room. Every day fresh sauces will be available along with a fresh selection of meats cooked on skewers. “You can taste the difference in our preparation,” said Gaffar.

The impressive menu was designed by Executive Chef Sanjoy Banik and his team and includes enticing options such as Panner Tikka Masala, different variations of Naan, Kasmiri Lamb Shank, Tandoori Shrimp,  Mango Chicken and much more. Plus if you’re a dessert lover you just have to check out the Mango Banana Carrot Flambe featuring house-made carrot bread pudding with home-made mango ice cream that is topped with rum and lit on fire.

The atmosphere is just as comforting as the food incorporating intimate and exquisite designs. Gaffar and his team renovated the first floor from top to bottom to set the impressive vibe that boasts eloquently patterned walls, a hanging crystal chandelier, glimmering gold and ruby artwork and more. The new spot brings an amazing flair to the historic Old City area in Philadelphia.

“I want to offer new modern and hip twists to favorite old school Indian dishes,” said Gaffar. “I want to scale Makahni into more than just a regular neighborhood corner curry house. I think people see Indian food as just curry or spicy. Indian food is beyond spicy and curry. Indian food can offer the most exotic mixture of aromatic flavors into any veggies, meat or seafood lovers. Rich and complex flavors – and layer of flavors.”

As a special treat Makhani Modern Indian is offering free samosas and complimentary wine all weekend from Friday to Sunday to celebrate the grand opening.
