Three-Eyed Raven: Where to taste the new ‘Game of Thrones’ brew

The long winter of our discontent is finally ending — the fifth season of “Game of Thrones” begins next Sunday, April 12. To mark the occasion, Brewery Ommegang has released the latest entry in its beer collaboration with the HBO series because Westeros is even tougher without a strong drink by your side.

Ommegang’s fifth tie-in brew, Three-Eyed Raven, references the mystical bird that led Bran Stark to his destiny far beyond The Wall. With a dark depth from malted rye, midnight wheat and dark candi sugar, the dark saison ale is “a style that we’ve been intrigued with for a while now and one that’s open to a broader stylistic interpretation,” says innovation manager Mike McManus.

Three-Eyed Raven will be released on April 6, but you can score bragging rights at several early tasting events at bars around the city. Don’t go Tyrion-deep into the grog though, because there will be a “Game of Thrones version of Rock, Paper, Scissors — Boulder, Sword, Dragon (what’s the hand gesture for that?) — to win prizes like bar tabs, official merchandise and DVDs. Each event goes from 6-10 p.m.

March 31: Forest Hills Station House, 106-11 71st Ave., Queens
April 1:Clinton Hall, 90 Washington St.
April 2:The Bronx Alehouse, 216 W. 238th St., Bronx
April 3:Stout NYC, 133 W. 33rd St.

The brew will also feature as part of a themed dinner on Tuesday at L’Apicio, where fan/chef Gabe Thompson has crafted a large-format feast of four courses, each inspired by the kingdoms of Westeros and Essos, one of the new locations in the upcoming season. Think boiled “auroch” with oats and cellar vegetables from Castle Black and trifle with coffee, mascarpone and rum from the wealthy city of Braavos. Tuesday, March 31, 7 p.m.; $125 all-inclusive

Once it’s released, bring a bottle of Three-Eyed Raven to Louro’s weekly BYOB Nossa Mesa Supper Club for a “Games of Thrones” feast on Monday, April 13, at 7 p.m. Hash out the series premiere over six courses inspired by the characters, like Jaime and Cersei Lannister’s duo of fluke and beef tartare (spicy and sweet), emu eggs for Daenerys Targarien and baked Alaska (is that a spoiler?) for Jon Snow. 142 W. 10th St., 212-206-0606 or nossamesa@louronyc.com
