There was a dramatic rescue of three firefighters from a three-alarm fire in Saugus early Wednesday morning, CBS Boston reported.

“A call for a mayday came in for one of my firefighters, and I’ll say a fire captain from Saugus, a fire lieutenant from Malden and a firefighter from Malden were able to extricate three of our firefighters from the building, and they were all out safely,” Saugus Fire Chief Michael Newbury told reporters.

Two of the the rescued firefighters are reported to have minor injuries.

Boston WHDH reported that an elderly woman who lives alone in the house was rescued when the fire was started by her two adult children.

The fire, which started around 5 a.m., took place right off of Route 1.

The house has been completely destroyed by the fire, the cause of which was unknown at the time.
