Through the eyes of a celebrity

Vancouver’s Documentary Film Festival (DOXA) will equip more than 30 celebrated public figures with single-use cameras to share their creative viewpoints on the world.

Online bids will determine who will own the undeveloped shots from celebrities such as k-os, Matthew Good, George Stroumboulopoulos, Robert Kennedy Jr. and Martin Sheen.

The “Exposed” fundraiser was unveiled at DOXA’s launch Thursday at the Media Club.

Joni Cooper, DOXA’s executive director, said proceeds will fund independent film makers for the 2010 festival.

“We’re at a time when documentary films are really hitting home for a lot of people,” Cooper said.

DOXA is an annual curated and juried festival. This year, it will be showcasing 75 independent documentaries made by Canadian and international directors. The majority of the films deal with issues of personal, social and political adversity.

“These films really provide help and inspiration to those who watch them,” Cooper said.

The 10-day festival and auction begins on May 22.
