The sun is setting on a chance for Boston residents to participate in a program to solarize their homes and receive a free solar assessment and discounted rates.

The city and office of Mayor Thomas Menino is urging residents to sign up to solarize their homes. The deadline to sign up is Saturday.

Through a partnership between Next Step Living and the city called Renew Boston Solarize, residents that sign a contract for solar qualify for bulk pricing that drops as more people solarize.

As of this month, there are 400 residential solar installations in Boston.

“My team is dedicated to reaching even more residents to see if going solar is right for them,” Menino said in a statement. “Through the Renew Boston Solarize program, residents can lock in lower energy costs, create new clean energy jobs right here in Boston and help us continue to ‘greenovate’ our city.”

Menino has set a goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 25 percent by 2020.
