Tinder, the company responsible for so many awkward first dates, has officially announced the US launch the new not-free version of its enormously popular dating app on Monday.
Known as Tinder Plus, the new feature of the app will contain two new functions. The first is known as “Rewind,” and it is essentially the Ctrl-Z of Tinder. “[Rewind] lets you take back your last swipe” the company wrote in a blog post. “If you accidentally swiped left on someone you want to get to know, they’re no longer lost in the Tindershpere forever. Now you can get him/her back with the touch of a button. The second feature is known as “Passport,” and is for any Tinder addict (you know you who are) who as swiped through every damn person in their city. The company explains, “Passport lets you change your location to connect with people anywhere around the world. It’s like teleporting to a different location. Search by city or drop a pin on the map and you can begin swiping, matching and chatting with Tinder users in a destination of your choice.” The company also kinda-sorta announced that they will be introducing limited swiping as well. Using really hefty language, the company proclaimed that the “validity of the swipe” is “core” to user experience on twitter: “Limitations on rewinding and right-swiping give users more incentive to make sure their swipes are honest. For power users who want to express interest in a large number of people, Tinder Plus grants unlimited liking capability.” What this essentially means is no more meaningless mindless swipes for free users, unless you upgrade to the premium option of the app for $4.99 a month.
