To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before’s director Susan Johnson has confirmed that tentative talks have been held about adapting Jenny Han’s follow-up books P.S. I Still Love You and Always And Forever, Lara Jean.

Han’s sequels to her 2014 young adult romantic novel were released in 2015 and 2017, respectively, and continued the romantic adventures of Lara Jean Covey, who is played exquisitely played Lana Condor in “To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before.”

During my recent discussion with her I asked Johnson if she was interested in adapting the follow-ups, and she instantly declared, “Yes, I would definitely be interested in doing it.”

“I am a huge fan of the whole thing. Really I am a huge fan of the cast for these roles.”

“We were having dinner, Lana, Israel and I, and I was like, ‘What do we think? Are we going to do the next one? Is it going to happen?’”

“They responded, ‘Yes! Make it happen. Before we get too old. We don’t want to be 30 doing these roles.’ Everybody involved is excited about it. We would love to keep the band together, so lets cross our fingers.”

The age of the cast, and the fact the characters are still in high school in the sequels, means that the movies need to happen quickly, though.

“It has got to happen fast. Otherwise it will be a flash-back movie, and we will have to cast someone else. But we are all interested.”

“We thought about it while we were casting the movie. And we knew we would only get a few more years of teenage years out of these guys anyway.”

“So we sort of were prepared for it. I don’t know about the third book, though, because that will be four years from now. So we will have to see what happens.”

At this point I suggested to Johnson that she should film the films back-to-back, which provoked her to respond enthusiastically with, “That’s a good idea. We should do that.”

But there’s still the small matter of getting the films greenlit by Netflix, and Johnson took the time to explain exactly how that process will work.

“The Netflix research will go into play on Friday morning at midnight. It just depends how well this film does within this section of Netflix. Hopefully people will watch it in a big way.”

“We sat down to talk with Netflix about the release of the movie and they told us it was going to come out in 190 countries all at the same time. It is a pretty powerful thing. It is overwhelming and exciting.”

“So many people from the fan base want to know exactly what time it is being released in their country. Whether it is 4am or in the afternoon. It will be fun to watch all of that unfold.”

You can watch “To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before” now, as it has finally been released on Netflix.
