Philadelphia Flyers general manager Danny Briere makes his first move of the off-season, inking goaltender Ivan Fedotov to a two-year 6.5 million dollar extension, per TSN’s Darren Dreger.
Fedotov played three games at the NHL level after finally coming to the US at the end of March. He started one of those three games and sported a .811 save percentage and a 4.95 GAA.
With uncertainty at the position outside of Sam Ersson, who had stretches of brilliance but was likely overworked down the stretch, Fedotov provides a bit of stability as someone with a long history of success in the KHL who could benefit from a proper off-season of training and preparation for the NHL game instead of being thrown to the wolves immediately after landing in Philly.
A tandem of Ersson and Fedotov will start the 2024-25 season with someone like Alexei Kolosov waiting in the wings in the AHL, but that’s a story for another time. For now, the goaltender position is shored up for the near future.
