The Trailer Park Boys rolled onto the red carpet Thursday night with all the glitz ‘n glam – er, rum ‘n coke – the world premiere of a major motion picture called Countdown to Liquor Day should entail.
“It’s like three seconds of rum and a second of mix,” Julian (John Paul Tremblay) said when asked whether he was drinking a single or double before stumbling into the Oxford Theatre, without a single splash spilling from his drink.
“Hopefully people will laugh,” Julian said of the sequel he’s starring in with his Sunnyvale partners-in-petty-crime, Ricky (Robb Wells) and Bubbles (Mike Smith).
When asked by reporters which designers they were wearing, Bubbles said “the fall collection of Wrangler,” while Ricky said “Wal-Mart” and some stuff he stole from “somebody’s suitcase at the airport.”
Rapper and porn producer J-Roc (Jonathan Torrens) and his buddy who’s actually black Tyrone (Tyrone Parsons) wore their finest bargain bin bling for the first major screening of Trailer Park Boys: Countdown to Liquor Day at the 29th Atlantic Film Festival.
“I’m wearing something I found on the 102,” J-Roc said of the fur coat he apparently picked up off the highway. “This is real skunk though, you know what I’m sayin’?”
Red-haired, low-cleavaged Sarah (Sarah Dunsworth) and Ricky’s baby mama Lucy (Lucy Decoutere) also posed on the red carpet along with several other Sunnyvale residents, including alcoholic Jim Lahey (John Dunsworth) and his big-bellied boy toy Randy (Patrick Roach).
Nova Scotia’s most well-known trailer trash weren’t the only celebrities snagging attention at the festival’s kick-off event. Halifax NDP MP Megan Leslie, Cabinet Minister Percy Paris and even Miss Canada International 2009 – 20-year-old Bridget Nickerson of Yarmouth – were also on hand to celebrate.
Director Mike Clattenburg one-upped Julian, drinking straight from part of a one-litre plastic bottle.
“I didn’t have time to actually get a drink glass, so I just mixed this in the car,” he said.
“It’s our swan song,” he said of the movie on a more serious note. “I hope you like it — cheers.”
