Metro Transit is offering a free shuttle bus service to-and-from Sidney Crosby’s Stanley Cup parade in Cole Harbour on Friday afternoon.
The shuttles will operate from Mic Mac and Penhorn mall terminals in Dartmouth to Cole Harbour Place on a 10-minute frequency from 1 to 3 p.m. A return shuttle service to the two terminals will run from Cole Harbour Place on a “load-and-go” basis beginning at 6:30 p.m. to about 8 p.m.
In addition to the shuttle service, Metro Transit also said passengers have the option of travelling to the parade on the regular transit routes to Cole Harbour, which are No. 59 Colby, No. 61 Auburn/North Preston and No. 68 Cherrybrook. Regular fares will apply to conventional route service, the release said.
Tens of thousands of people are expected to attend Friday’s parade, which will be the main event to how Crosby spends his 22nd birthday with Lord Stanley’s mug.
The parade will begin at 2:30 p.m. at the Portland Hills bus terminal and head down to Cole Harbour Place. Crosby and the Cup are expected to arrive at CHP at 3:30 p.m.
The Pittsburgh Penguins superstar is scheduled to address the crowd shortly after his arrival to the sports facility.
Earlier in the day Friday, Crosby will arrive with the Stanley Cup by Sea King Helicopter on the flight deck of HMCS Preserver at 9 a.m. Following greetings from several dignitaries, including Defence Minister Peter MacKay, Crosby will meet a group of sailors, soldiers, airmen and airwomen and civilian employees and their families from Halifax Region Canadian Forces.
He will then leave the dockyard in a light armoured vehicle convoy.
