Transport board OK’s more pathways

Some of the missing links in Ottawa’s multi-use pathway system could finally be getting filled in.

Yesterday, the city’s transportation committee approved a motion to enter into negotiations with the National Capital Commission to share the cost of building five new pathways, mostly located within a 20-minute bike ride of Parliament.

The pathways will be exclusively for pedestrians and bicycles.

New paths

  • Champagne/O-Train Corridor ($3.2 million) would follow the O-Train corridor on its east side from the Ottawa River to Prince of Wales Drive.

  • Rideau River Western Pathway ($1.5 million) would follow the western bank of the Rideau River between Bank Street and the University of Ottawa campus on Lees Avenue.

  • Sawmill Creek/LRT Corridor Pathway ($1.2 million) would connect two pathways between Hunt Club and Heron Road.

  • Hampton Park Pathway ($400,000) would act as an alternative to Carling Avenue.

  • Aviation Pathway ($1.4 million) would follow the Hydro Ottawa corridor connecting the Prescott-Russell Pathway.
