Trial opens in fatal stabbing at Foot Locker

Kurt Azeez was shoe shopping in a crowded Foot Locker at the Scarborough Town Centre when he was stabbed in the chest and collapsed.

Azeez never regained consciousness and died a little more than a year later. He had just turned 21. The second-degree murder trial of the man accused of wielding the knife on Dec. 1, 2007, opened yesterday.

Kareem King, 20, has pleaded not guilty.

Security cameras captured what happened to Azeez from different angles. The images show a confrontation between Azeez and King near the store’s cash desk, Crown attorney Kim Motyl told jurors in her opening statement.

Eyewitnesses who were inside the store will testify about the altercation and stabbing, court was told.
