“Beauty and the Beast”

DRAMA. Kristin Kreuk stars as a hard-nosed NYC cop whose life was once saved by a mysterious stranger (Jay Ryan). He re-enters her life — and reveals some pretty shocking secrets, like the one about military experiments that have turned him into a Hulk-ish monster — in this reboot of the ’80s fantasy romance.

Series premiere, 9 p.m., The CW

“‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia”

COMEDY. Dennis and Dee are two people who should never have say in the decision to end an ailing man’s life — even if it is their Nazi grandfather on his deathbed.

Season premiere, 10 p.m., FX

“The Vampire Diaries”

DRAMA. Elena turns into a vampire at the same time the town council vows to eliminate the undead, which will make for a totally awkward Founders’ Day Dance this year.

Season premiere, 8 p.m., The CW

“30 Rock”

COMEDY. “Breaking Bad” star Bryan Cranston was just jonesing to get back on TV, apparently — tonight he guest stars as Ron, the “friend” of Kenneth’s mom.
