“Mankind: The Story of All of Us”

DOCUMENTARY. Don’t worry — this 12-hour docuseries is no snoozy high school history lecture. Instead, bloody battle re-enactments (lots of them) and narration by Josh Brolin help tell the tale of humans’ humble beginnings and rise to global dominance.

Miniseries premiere, 9 p.m., History Channel

“New Girl”

COMEDY. Schmidt goes all “Fifty Shades of Grey” on his corporate boss (guest star Carla Gugino), though we’re guessing he’s the Ana in this situation.

“Raising Hope”

8 p.m., Fox

“Happy Endings”

COMEDY. Max’s days as a bar mitzvah emcee may be numbered (possibly not such a bad thing) when he invites Brad to go to work with him — and the newbie steals the spotlight.
