TV Watch List: Monday, September 23

'Hostages' “Hostages” premiers tonight.

Metro’s Monday night TV breakdown.

‘How I Met Your Mother’
COMEDY. We’re not really sure where this show can go from here, now that we’ve met the title mother. The writers must be similarly tapped out, because this entire (final) season takes place over the span of Robin and Barney’s wedding weekend. We’ll tune in anyway, though, because we need to know exactly how Ted and the Mother met. We need to.
Season Premiere, 8 p.m., CBS

‘Hostages’
DRAMA. We’re still bummed that “Dexter” kicked the bucket last night but, luckily, it looks like there will be plenty of dark TV shows to take its place this fall (uh, “American Horror Story” with witches, anyone?) “Hostages” stars former “AHS” star Dylan McDermott as an FBI agent who, for unexplained reasons, goes rogue and holds a family hostage.
Series Premiere, 10 p.m., CBS

‘The Voice’
TALENT. “American Idol” lost its luster for us about a decade ago (or whenever it was that crazy-pants Paula Abdul defected) but we’ve got to admit that “The Voice” still does it for us. Maybe it’s the banter between the judges, maybe its Adam Levine’s sinewy, inked up arms (what?), or maybe it’s that the talent level seems like a cut above — either way, we’re still watching.
Season Premiere, 8 p.m., NBC

‘Teen Mom 3’
REALITY. Tonight, Josh competes in a rodeo. This is a guy who is reticent to the point of appearing comatose (we get the impression he’s already received one too many hooves to the dome in his young life), so we’re hoping he stays safe.
10 p.m., MTV
