A 150-pound bear attacked and seriously injured two men camping near Port Alberni, RCMP said yesterday.
The two men, aged 47 and 57, were asleep yesterday morning when the bear attacked the older man inflicting injuries to his skull.
His friend, who was sleeping nearby, fought off the bear, but also suffered deep claw mark wounds.
Both were treated at West Coast General Hospital. Police say they don’t know what provoked the attack.
