Two women face charges after Calgary airport drug seizure

Two foreign women have been charged with importing a controlled substance after they were allegedly caught smuggling 31 kilograms of the drug Khat from London, England into the Calgary International Airport on Saturday.

Officials say the women were arriving from London when Canada Border Services officers conducted a further examination of the women’s luggage and allegedly found the numerous bundles of Khat.

Melinda Zsuzsanna Meszaros, 36 of London, U.K., and Katalin Rackso, 53, also of London, U.K., have both been charged and are currently in custody. They are set to appear in Calgary Provincial Court today.
