(UPDATE) Brooklyn man arrested in wife’s brutal murder

crime scene Rikard Larma / Metro

Police have arrested a 58-year-old Brooklyn man in the brutal murder of his wife Sunday morning.

Hazel Robinson, 51, was found dead with severe injuries to her neck in her Canarsie home on Sunday just before noon, according to police.

She was pronounced dead at the scene. Her husband, 58-year-old Ian Robinson, was immediately taken into custody and later charged with murder and criminal possession of a weapon.

The couple had been living in Hazel’s son’s apartment since they were forced to leave their own home because of Hurricane Sandy, a law enforcement source said.

According to law enforcement sources, the attack was precipitated by Hazel Robinson telling her husband they needed to live separate lives, and that he needed to start cooking and doing his own laundry.

She then went into the bedroom, and he followed her with a knife, police sources say. Before he slashed her throat, he reportedly told her she ruined his life.

He reportedly told police she fought back, but ultimately collapsed to the floor. Police say he returned to the kitchen, got a cleaver, and went back into the bedroom, where he shut the door and continued to hack at her neck until she stopped moving.

Cops said he told them he heard his 4-year-old grandson screaming for him through the door.

The couple had been married for a little over ten years, police said.
