(UPDATE) Most subway service back after fire, signal troubles, ice spread transit chaos

Nowhere Fast: Passengers want fixes, but how soon is now?

UPDATE 5:30 pm — It is still unclear whether the 7 Train will be back fully. The icing problems faced by the 7’s third elevated tracks in Queens will likely be aided by tomorrow’s temps, which @metronewyork @wjbreports writes will hit 40 degrees. Click here. Balmy! But don’t get too happy: More snow is on tap for Thursday’s commute.

BY THE BY: It’s not just us. The frozen tundra folks up in Boston have it real bad, according to @metroboston @dmaccash. Click here and here for their wicked tales of woe.

UPDATE — 4 pm.
As the evening commute unfolds, most lines were fully running after this morning’s mess — except the No. 7.

The MTA admits a series of simultaeneous circumstances caused extra pain for commuters.

“Two sick passengers, two track fires and some signal trouble. Some days are challenging,” agency spokesman Kevin Ortiz told Metro.
