Water had been restored and patch-up efforts were underway after a water main break in the North End Tuesday that led to flooding in the neighborhood.
Prince Street will remain closed overnight between Salem and Hanover streets while crews continue work in the area, said Jeanne Richardson, Water and Sewer spokeswoman. Street restoration work was scheduled to be completed tomorrow. At least one residential building and a store were without water Tuesday, she said.
The break at Prince and Salem streets led to “massive flooding” in the neighborhood,” according to news site NorthEndWaterfront.com. Images posted to the site also showed extensive damage to roadways.

At least one North End resident reported brown water coming out of their tap.

Richardson said the discoloration could be caused by dislodged soil mixing in with water.
“They’ll be able to flush that out now that the water has been restored to the area,” she said. “They can remove the strainer from their faucet if there is any sediment, and they’ll be fine.”
