A Pontiac teen charged with manslaughter in the death of a man who tried to stop a theft of a pumpkin was granted $2,000 bail Thursday.
Korey Perry, 19, appeared in court Thursday with his defense lawyer, Gerard Larocque. Perry will appear in court again on Nov. 24 to arrange a preliminary hearing.
Perry was initially charged with assault causing bodily harm, but the charge was upgraded to manslaughter after the victim, 57-year-old Paul Hines, died. Hines tried to stop a group of teens from stealing the pumpkin at the IGA on 203 Chemin d’Aylmer on Sept. 29.
Hines was beaten in the incident and died in hospital on Oct. 6.
Larocque said Perry has a curfew to obey as per the regular bail conditions. He expects the trial to start in late 2012 or early 2013.
