A woman was killed around 2:45 p.m. today when she was struck by an MBTA Orange Line train at Stony Brook Station in Jamaica Plain.
It was not immediately clear why the woman was on the tracks.
When asked whether the death was a suicide, or an accident, Transit Police Lt. Richard Sullivan said, “It’s too early for us to determine that. We’re still investigating facts and circumstances leading up to it.”
The station was evacuated and service halted as firefighters removed the body.
Sullivan said an identity would not be released today, but on their blog, Transit Police described the woman as “a white female, approximately in her 30’s,” and said she was trespassing on the inbound track towards the south end ofStony Brook Station when she was struck.
MBTA Transit Police tweeted at 3 p.m., “Police action/medical emergency at #MBTA StonyBrook station expect delays on the Orange Line. Updates to follow…. shuttle bus service between Ruggles and Forest Hills.”
Shuttle service was still in effect as of 4 p.m., Sullivan said.
