Calgary’s urban music scene is now stepping up, ready to hip hop to help Haiti earthquake victims.
Jason Wakeford, co-ordinator for a tonight’s event at the Distillery, said the fundraiser could be an eye opener for Calgarians.
“When a natural disaster happens, the colour barrier is lifted and we look at each other like human beings,” says Wakeford.
“It’s sad that a natural disaster is what it takes for people to come together and help humanity but if that’s what it takes, then unfortunately that’s what it’ll be. ”
A silent auction will also be held. Local artists have donated graffiti, contemporary and abstract art pieces for auction.
Wakeford also said TCMCanada will donate partial proceeds from other events throughout the year to Haiti relief funds.
Live performances from 8:30 p.m. to 1 a.m. include Sarah Tesfai, InfiniteP, Rasul Syed, and others. The music will range from acoustic soul, street R&B, and conscious hip hop. The event is promoted and organized by TCMCanada, TUNDACLAP, and EndubEvents.
