Precast concrete and glass mark the new Ironstone Condominiums development, which aims to bring a bit of urbanity to Burlington, Ont.

The complex, located at Appleby Line and Ironstone Drive, was conceived by Toronto architecture firm raw design, and it’s one that Renee Bourgon, marketing and communications director for the condo’s developer, Davis-Smith Developments said is intended to match modern high-rise design with community.

“We’ve created a building where retail is along the Appleby front, so it creates a bit of a more pedestrian-friendly community and more vitality around the building,” she said. “On the Ironstone Street side, we’ve also done walk-ups — what we call office retail spaces. They’re two-story, designed similar to a loft, but they’re street fronts, so they can be used for home offices and smaller retail spaces.”

Ironstone’s mixed-use nature continues from the ground up. Atop the building sits a 15,000 square foot rooftop terrace with seating areas, an outdoor barbecue and fireplace. “It’s almost like marrying the best of both worlds,” said Bourgon, “the capacity to have your own backyard, but have maintenance-free living.”

Within the suites of Ironside, also fashioned by raw designs, with select finishes designed by Toronto’s full scale + partners, Bourgon said there exists a fusion of urban and contemporary design to reflect modern condominium owners.

“It’s comfort and design minimized for that clean palette and fresh living space.

It’s a classic look, but a refreshing colour palette of grey, white backdrops and splashes of green for that energizing feel.”

Minimalism is also present in the suite’s fixtures. From simple kitchen cabinetry to express a fresh, clean look to the one-piece bathroom vanity that emphasizes clean lines, Bourgon said maximizing the suite’s potential was always a conscious component during design.
