MELBOURNE, Australia – Melbourne Heart says Dutch coach John van ‘t Schip will leave the A-League club at the end of the season to return to Europe.
The Heart said Wednesday van ‘t Schip told the club of his decision on Tuesday, despite the fifth-placed side turning in an encouraging performance this season.
Van ‘t Schip represented the Netherlands in 41 matches throughout the 1980s and ’90s while playing for Ajax and Serie A side Genoa. He was assistant coach with Ajax and the Dutch national team before becoming Heart’s inaugural coach in 2009.
Van ‘t Schip’s future plans were not disclosed. The Heart said it would immediately begin searching for a new coach for next season.
