VANOC sustainability report reinstates banned factories

Organizers of Vancouver’s 2010 Games banned six factories from producing Olympic merchandise in 2007-2008, but re-admitted five of those factories after infractions were corrected, VANOC said Thursday.

According to a sustainability report released Thursday, VANOC conducted 187 licensee audits last year, banning six factories and implementing 148 “corrective action plans for continual improvement.”

Five of the factories were later re-admitted while the sixth remains banned until critical assessments are addressed. VANOC did not say where the factories were located.

VANOC also banned six factories in 2006-2007.

The sustainability snapshot reported that all of VANOC’s 89 suppliers met Canadian human rights standards.

The report states that 50 per cent of VANOC’s spending was local, while 43 per cent of spending went to other parts of B.C. and Canada, and 7 per cent was spent outside Canada.
