Vaughan council picks up where it left off in ’08

Vaughan Mayor Linda Jackson’s weekend announcement of a new policy of transparency and co-operation at city hall doesn’t appear to have won respect from her mutinous councillors.

In the first city council meeting of the new year, the embattled Jackson found herself blindsided by a priorities plan for the year that had been crafted by councillors and added to the agenda without her knowledge.

Then, her attempt to fine-tune Coun. Bernie DiVona’s proposal to post expense claims online for public view was rebuffed by council and deferred to the audit committee for consideration.

The mayor is currently fighting council’s plans to lay charges against her over alleged election finance irregularities.
