Veteran nurse suspended for incompetence

A veteran registered nurse at Colchester Regional Hospital has been suspended for incompetence and professional misconduct.

The recent decision by the College of Registered Nurses of Nova Scotia marks the second suspension for Kimberly Ann Lockhart, who had been on interim suspension.

Between December 2006 and November 2007, Lockhart admitted to failing to ensure the safe administration of medications; failing to practise nursing with appropriate knowledge, skill and judgment; failing to be accountable and responsible for her own nursing practice; failing to communicate appropriately with a client and family members and not paying appropriate attention to the client.

Lockhart won’t be able to work until she passes a refresher program. The suspension was an agreement between the nurse and the College of Registered Nurses.
