Victim, public help police arrest shooting suspect

Police have arrested a 20-year-old man wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for a shooting in the city’s northeast that left another man in hospital.

Officers received a tip from the public, which led them to the arrest of Salim Mohammed Kaddoura in a hotel early Sunday evening.

Acting Major Crimes Unit Staff Sgt. Keith Cain said the public was a big help to police in hunting down the suspect, as was the victim.

“We received a lot of public response and we were able to talk with the victim, who helped provide us with some information, as well,” Cain told Metro.

The Thursday night incident saw a 22-year-old man shot in the chest and abdomen with a high-calibre weapon after a confrontation with a group of men at 52 St. and 26 Ave N.E., police said.

Kaddoura is charged with aggravated assault in connection to the incident. The victim remains in hospital in critical but stable condition.
