Victor Cruz hasn’t played a full NFL season since 2012 including missing the entirety of 2015. Yet now the New York Giants wide receiver is proclaiming himself healthy, this despite missing Tuesday with a groin injury.

A variety of injuries kept Cruz out last year, a severe blow to the Giants passing offense as it lost a player with big-play potential who can stretch the field. He has proclaimed himself back, even seeing limited reps in non-contact scenarios during minicamp.

He has played just 20 games since the start of the 2013 season.

So Tuesday seeing him out of training camp with a groin injury was concerning, especially given his recent history of injuries. Cruz, however, wasn’t terribly concerned as he said he gets one of these groin injuries every training camp.

“I went through one of my biggest workloads the last week and came back the next day and practiced and everything felt good. No pain, no ailments or anything like that, so my body has been good and responding well to the wear and tear of camp, so I’m excited about that,” Cruz said. “I just want to keep putting things forward. Obviously with the game on Friday, another practice tomorrow, we’ll see how I feel come tomorrow and we’ll just take it one day at a time.”

Giants head coach Ben McAdoo said it was too early to tell if Cruz would make the roster for Friday and the start of preseason against the Miami Dolphins.

“It’s a combination of what he needs from a coaching perspective, the training room perspective, the strength and conditioning perspective,” McAdoo said. “It’s not just one person making that decision. We take the numbers; we take everything into consideration.”
