VIDEO: Ad in Denmark asks citizens to have more sex

It’s sexy, but it’s no condom commercial. Travel company Spies Rejser is asking fellow Danes to hop in the sack and make some babies in its campaign “Do it for Denmark.”

You see, Denmark needs more babies. The country’s birth rate is currently at a 27-year low, clocking in at just 10 births per 1,000 people in 2013. To put that into perspective, the U.S. birthrate is also at a low: The U.S. Census just announced on Thursday that the fertility rate for 20- to 24-year-olds is now 83.1 births per 1,000 women, according to Time.

As Spies Rejser points out in its commercial, the government hasn’t been able to do much to alleviate the situation. “Can sex save Denmark?” asks the ad. Spies Rejser thinks travel is the solution: Apparently, a whopping 10 percent of Danish children are conceived while they parents are on a vacation and if you believe Spies Rejser, 46 percent of people have more sex on vacation than they do in their everyday lives.

The company is taking things into its own hands with a contest. Danes who can prove they conceived a child during one of its trips will win three years worth of baby things and a baby-friendly vacation.

But as the ad points out: Don’t do it for the vacation. Don’t do it for the baby goods. Do it for Denmark and the aging population, who will undoubtedly need the support of future generations. Vacation and sex for your country? Even John F. Kennedy couldn’t have made a more compelling case.
