VIDEO: MBTA asks for public’s help finding rider who spit on T driver

Transit Police are asking for the public’s help identifying two men who allegedly spit in an MBTA driver’s face last week.

According to reports, a bus driver operating the Route 28 bus from Ruggles Station to Mattapan Station on April 18 was stopped at the intersection of Warren and Hazelwood Streets when two black males boarded the bus and refused to pay the fare.

After the driver asked the first suspect repeatedly to pay for the ride, the suspect said “you know what man,” and allegedly spit in the driver’s face, hitting his eyes, forehead, mouth area and the window, according to reports.

The suspect then fled the bus.

Police said the second suspect then said to the driver “”Mother******, you want some of this, you really want this,” while gesturing to his waistband.

According to reports, the T driver stated he believed the second suspect was motioning his hand towards a firearm concealed in his waistband.

A Transit Police detective responded to the scene and photographed all evidence, and collected the spit from the first suspect using a DNA swab.

Earlier this year, Transit Police announced an initiative to start testing DNA from rider’s who spit on drivers, after T officials said such incidents have been on the rise.
