VIDEO: McDonald’s explains why their french fries need 19 ingredients

McDonald’s, in its continuous effort to show off the man behind the curtain of every food they conjure up, has released a video explaining why their fries need 19 ingredients.

You read that right. 19. Ingredients.

If you recall, one of the more recent videos by McDonalds showed off how they make a McRib. The video featured a tour of a McDonald’s food processing plant, and a step by step demonstration of how the infamous sandwichwas made.

There were many, many steps.

Mythbusters’Grant Imaharareturns as a host for this video and explains the purpose of all 19 of the ingredients. Lucky for us the first ingredient is, drum roll please, potatoes.

These 19 ingredients are as follows:

  • Potatoes
  • Canola oil
  • Soybean oil
  • Hydrogenated soybean oil
  • Natural beef flavour
  • Hydrolyzed wheat
  • Hydrolyzed milk
  • Citric acid
  • Dimethylpolysiloxane
  • Dextrose
  • Sodium acid pyrophosphate
  • Salt
  • Canola oil
  • Corn oil
  • Soybean oil
  • Hydrogenated soybean oil
  • TBHQ
  • Citric acid
  • Dimethylpolysiloxane

That big scary word “dimethylpolysioxane” is a “anti-foaming agent, that the Washington Post calls “a fairly innocuous additive.”

We’re not too sure how we feel about there being an “anti-foaming” agent in our food. Shouldn’t french fries be three ingredients? Potatoes, oil and salt?
