VIDEO: NYPD cops use batons on suspect

The Bronx district attorney and the NYPD launched an investigation after a group of cops kicked and repeatedly hit 19-year-old Jatiek Reed with their batons while he was on the ground. At one point during the video posted online, an officer is seen threatening the person shooting the footage with pepper spray, ordering him to get back.

Reed was arrested on Thursday at East 168th Street in University Heights on charges of robbery, possession of marijuana and crack cocaine and assaulting a police officer.

The criminal complaint states that one of the arresting officers needed stitches to his nose. Reed’s family told NY1 that he was denied medical attention after the violent arrest.

“They refused to take him back to the hospital and they wouldn’t give him no medicine or anything. He is sitting there telling me his head is hurting, he doesn’t feel good,” said Reed’s mother, Schuan Reed. “He has staples in his head, he has staples in his arm, his eyes were black, his whole entire back is black, blue, purple.”

Several of Jatiek Reed’s family members were also arrested when they went to the police station to ask about the incident. They denied to NY1 that they attacked police officers, despite a criminal complaint that claims they did.

Reed’s family said they plan to file a law suit against the city, the NYPD and the arresting officers.
