During the early stages of what was then called “The Facebook,” Zuckerberg saw the website as an “online directory for colleges” that is similar to real life. The site launched at three schools that already had existing online communities — Columbia, Yale and Stanford.

“The goal wasn’t to make an online community, but sort of a mirror for the real community that existed in real life,” Zuckerberg said in the video.

“The Facebook isn’t a place where people go to meet, but where you go to see who knows each other,” he also said.

Facebook launched in February 2004 and it is recognized as one of the most popular social networks in the world today.According to its information page, as of December 2015, the site averages 1.04 billion active daily users. Zuckerberg must be doing something right.
