Hot97’shost Peter Rosenberg went off on a police officer yesterday during a discussion on his show about Alton Sterling’s death.
Rosenberg, who co-hosts the New Yorkhip-hop station’s weekday morning show “Ebro in the Morning,” questioned how the incident, in which two officers allegedly tackled Sterling outside a convenience store, then shot him four to six times, escalated so quickly.
“What I’m trying to understand is, if you show up to a situation where you gotten a call that something bad had happened, how do you get to the point where you’re simply bum-rushing him, tackling him and shooting him,” Rosenberg said. “How do we get to you doing your job that poorly?”
A person named Doug who said he worked in law enforcement called into the show, Rosenbergasked himto admit Sterling’s death was poorly handled by police officers.
“As an officer yourself, it looks bad, no?”Rosenberg asked the caller. “Can you say the words, ‘It looks bad.'”
The officer stammered, and Rosenberg snapped.
“You can’t ever say that, this is the problem I have with cops,” the host said. “I have to say this. This is the problem I have with police officers — and no disrespect to you. Y’all don’t ever wanna point to someone else and say you can’t do your job well! And that’s the reason the public thinks all of you are bad, because you won’t ever call someone out and say they murdered someone in cold blood. It happened again.”
“Until you guys start taking responsibility for your own, people in the street are gonna be upset instead,” Rosenberg continued.”So how ’bout y’all lead the movement instead,” Rosenberg tells the officer. “How ’bout instead of people rioting, police officers get out in front of it themselves and you guys are the first ones on the front lines. That’s what should happen instead of you struggling to say, well I don’t know, it could be. They murdered that man. We just saw it.”
