The NBA continues to expand as a global game, with the first Indian-born player bringing an intriguing storyline along with him to the Dallas Mavericks.

Satnam Singh, all 7-foot-2 of him, weight 290 pounds and is simply a giant. He was seven-feet tall by age 14 and has a 6-foot-9 grandmother.

His father was the same height but forbidden from playing hoops by his grandfather.

The Mavs are truly taking a big chance on the young big man with their late second-round selection. Singh is the first player to enter the NBA without having played any college, D-League or foreign professional basketball since 2005 (when the NBArequired players to be a year removed from high school).

The 19-year-old did not receive any academic scholarships to play collegially but was old enough to enter the NBA. In 2014-15 for the IMG Academy, Singh averaged 9.2 points, 8.4 rebounds and 2.2 blocks in less than 20 minutes per game. His potential is high, and the weight of a nation, one of the biggest on the planet is certainly rooting for him to success in the world’s most high-profile basketball league.
