VIDEO: Victor Cruz suffers ugly season-ending knee injury

The Giants played about as ugly a game as you possibly could against the Eagles Sunday night in Philadelphia. But to make matters worse, they also lost team captain Victor Cruz to an ugly knee injury.

Cruz and the Giants were facing a fourth-and-goal in the third quarter, trailing 20-0, when Eli Manning found Cruz open in the back right corner of the end zone.

Unfortunately, when Cruz planted his right leg to go up for the ball it just buckled under him. It looked fairly innocuous upon first viewing, as most noncontact injuries do, but you can see the leg give out.

He was diagnosed with a torn patellar tendon right on the field and he will miss the rest of the season.

It was a particularly painful injury, as you could see Cruz was in total agony.

He was carted off the field in tears.

You can see in the video just how important Cruz is to the Giants’ team. Giants players, like team leader Antrel Rolle, were out on the field to check on him immediately. Even Eagles players were standing around to lend Cruz moral support.

But you want to know how great a person Cruz is? NBC’s Josh Elliott saw Cruz being wheeled to an ambulance and tweeted about what Cruz did.

That is pretty unbelievable for a guy who knows he has a year of hard rehab ahead of him.
