Video: Watch Jason Momoa’s ‘Game of Thrones’ audition

Though the clip has been online since 2012, Jason Momoa’s audition for Khal Drogo on “Game of Thrones” has been making the rounds this weekend. In it, he performs a pretty intense version of the haka, a Maori war cry, which helped him win the part. He was only on the show for a season, but the character has remained popular, and did big things for Momoa: His casting as Aquaman was just confirmed, and he’ll be appearing in a series of superhero movies as the guy, including his own solo film in 2018.

The haka is also known for being the New Zealand rugby team’s pregame ritual. See below for a video of them performing it along with a translation of what the chant means. Regrettably, these rugby players did not get cast in “Game of Thrones” following their performance, but the show’s not over yet.
