Michael Sam accepted the Arthur Ashe Courage Award at the 2014 ESPY awards and gave an emotional speech that touched thousands of people in attendance and millions of people around the world.
During the speech, Sam spoke about his experience coming out and becoming the first openly gay player in the NFL.
Sam also shared his personal experiences on and off the field and stressed the importance of being who you truly are and how that will contribute to your success.
He concluded his speech with a simple statement that was honest and sincere. He said, “Great things can happen when you have the courage to be yourself.”
