A Michigan police officer gave new meaning to the phrase “to protect and serve” Sunday when he donned a rubber glove and approached a stressed out skunk that was struggling to get a yogurt container off its head.
The officer, identified on YouTube as Rochester Police Officer Merlin Taylor, was seen on dash cam video slowly approaching the tiny creature, which was pacing in circles on a suburban road.
After a few close calls with the skunk, who was lunging at the officer, Taylor gingerly reached down and grabbed the yogurt container from the animal's head.

Despite Taylor's compassion, the skunk lifted its tail in an apparent attempt to spray Taylor.
The video's description summed it up: “There's brave ... and then there's valiant."
