Violent weekend plagues Boston

Three instances of violence that left one person dead and eight injured plagued Boston this weekend.

City police are investigating these incidents, which are not connected, in the wake of a violent week in Boston that included a stabbing in East Boston on Wednesday in which a 23-year-old man was killed.

Saturday, Aug. 20

12:05 a.m.:An early-morning shootingleft one man dead and a woman fighting for her life in Dudley Terrace. Responding to reports of gunfire, police found the two people suffering apparent gunshot wounds; the man was pronounced dead on the scene, according to MassLive.com. This was the 22ndhomicidein Boston this year.

According to the Boston Herald, a witness to the shooting saw two groups of people “meet on the sidewalk,” and he heard “a slap in the face” before gunfire erupted.

11:45 p.m.: At a birthday party celebration in Dorchester, nearly 40 people had gathered in an apartment complex courtyard when gunfire broke out just before midnight. According to the Boston Globe, 14 shots were fired, striking four people, including a female guest who was shot in the back. The three other people injured were not guests at the celebration. Three victims were transported to the hospital — one refused treatment—and their injuries ranged from “not so severe” to “critical,” the Globe reported.

Sunday, Aug. 21

2 p.m.: Officials were called to a house on Angell street in Dorchester where police said an argument led to a stabbing, NECN reported. None of the injuries were believed to be life threatening.
